"Song of My Self" featured in Women's History Month Exhibit

This is my second self portrait collage and oil that I've done.  I am one of 10 artists selected for a juried show at Art and Soul Gallery in Jacksonville for National Women's History Month, and this piece will be featured.  The opening is Wednesday, March 2, 5:30 p.m.

I have another collage I've started and there's no paint on it... it's all collage...  I find when I do collage for a while, I really , really miss painting.  But the collage  is fun also and adds something different to a piece.

Hope to see you at my opening next week.

Time Passages Exhibit

"Desires" © Pamela Ramey Tatum 2011
The show at the Gallery at Avalon Island  which was themed "Time Passages" featured art inspired poetry and poetry inspired art,   It was a great success.  My vision was truly realized.  Jeff Shonkwiler, gallery curator, said the response to the show was extremely positive.  People really liked the concept a lot.  We had some very talented artists with some amazing pieces (my personal favorite being Pat Zalisko's "Round Trip" based on Susan Lilley's amazing poem by the same name.  It's a love story and Pat captured that exquisitely.  What a wonderful evening it was!

Both my paintings sold at the opening; I'm thrilled about that.  I had "My face at 50" in the show and also "Desires" (28X28 oil on board) that was inspired by Terry Godbey's poem, "Dim Doorways."

So many people came out to see the show; one of my friends even came down from Jacksonville.

Next event is the AW Member's Show at Harris House next Saturday 5th.

Collage & oil self portrait

This was a super fun piece.  I am paired up with Terry Godbey, an amazing poet, for an exhibit I organized.  It's at The Gallery at Avalon Island in downtown Orlando and opens on January 20th. My self portrait was inspired by Terry's poem, "My Face at 46."

Here's an excerpt from her poem:

"My Face at 50"   ©Pamela Ramey Tatum
I don’t blame anyone
but dread what’s next: breasts slowly
letting go, hands speckled like trout.
Most mornings I figure why bother
and dash off without mascara
or lipstick. Is that really me,
or is it the young woman
out of a Flemish oil painting

I hope you all can come to see the show.  There are 8 artists and 5 poets, all very talented, and it’s going to be a super fun, artistic and literary evening.  The poets will be reading their poetry upstairs.  Light refreshments will be served and the event is free.
